John and Helen started Fascia’s Chocolates in 1964 in the basement of their Waterbury home. John was an Electric Technician in a local factory. To earn some extra money, he would buy and package nuts to sell to his coworkers. Eventually, they decided to add chocolate to the mix. With the help of their three daughters the family slowly built up the business, eventually moving out of their house to a full time occupation. John and Helen are so proud of how far the business has come, but they are prouder that Fascia’s is still all about family. They can still come into work and can see their daughters, son-in-law, and grandchildren all working hard to upkeep the family name.
The exact beginning of John and Helen’s relationship is still a subject of debate. Helen likes to say they met when she ran out of gas. In reality, they met a year before through some mutual friends and when John first asked her out, she said no. Then one night, Helen was picking her mother up from work and her car ran out of gas. That’s when John came driving down the road and pulled over to help. Helen’s mother commented on how nice the young man was and Helen agreed. They started dating and two years later they got married. The rest is history.

It was a big decision to agree to working with her husband Carmen but she loves how it all turned out! Louise oversees the front end of the business and is the ultimate authority on our quality and freshness so she is the real keeper of her parents’ legacy.
